Burials at Sea date back to the Vikings. At that time Bruials at Sea were truly a Burial at Sea, with the Vikings placed on a ship, and sent to sea, while on shore, his fellow Vikings shot flaming arrows at the ship and set it ablaze. Burials at Sea have changed today by simply taking the ashes of a friend or loved one and scattering said ashes. Families and friends choosing to witness a Burial at Sea aboard Legend will experience a meaningful and beautiful ceremony. The Burial at Sea will be conducted at a pre-established latitude and longitude destination. A simple yet meaningful service is conducted by our Captain or a minister of your choosing. Guests are encouraged to participate with the Burial at Sea, after the service. Prior to the service long stem roses are distributed to each guest. The ashes as lowered in a basket, covered by rose petals and released, for the Burial at Sea. At this time Legend's ship bell is rung eight times, signifying the "change of watch", another old Burial at Sea tradition. The Burial at Sea witnesses deliver their farewells with their roses. Legend circles the site for the Burial at Sea tribute, and we cruise back to the harbor. A nautical Commemorative Certificate is inscribed with the Name, Date, and the Latitude and Longitude location of the Burial at Sea, and given to the family.
